Some children and youth need something different.
Sometimes the difference can be hard to see from the outside.
You are not alone in this.
Some experiences can be difficult to explain.
Some children and youth…
feel everything deeply.
become overwhelmed in ways that don’t always make sense.
notice things others miss and ask big questions.
think in patterns, systems, or ideas that move very quickly.
respond in ways that can be misunderstood.
need things to make sense and can struggle when they don’t.
often hold it together outside, and struggle more at home. need more time, more space, or more support to settle.
What this practice is
This is a bespoke, limited-capacity practice.
I work with a limited number of families at a time
Care remains thoughtful, attuned, and responsive.
This is not high-volume therapy.
The work is relational and nervous-system informed.
It prioritizes timing, fit, and depth.
Practice Specialization
Hello, I’m Dr. Mercy Yeboah-Ampadu, a Registered Clinical Social Worker and Certified Play Therapist with 28 years of clinical practice.
I specialize in working with children and youth with moderate to complex emotional, relational, neurodivergent, and behavioral needs — particularly those whose experiences are often misunderstood or do not fit neatly into standard approaches.
How the work is approached
Children and youth do not need to be rushed into solutions before they feel safe.
In this practice, safety comes before solutions.
The nervous system leads; language follows.
Support is offered carefully, at the right time.
When the conditions are right, change becomes possible.
